Website Chat
Live chat, AI answers and a contact form on your website.
Website Chat puts a Chat with us button on your website. Visitors talk to a live teammate, get AI answers from your knowledge base, or leave their details in a contact form. Your team answers on the Web chats page in TelBuddy, on a computer or a phone. Overview: Website Chat.
It runs on the Twilio or Telnyx account you already have. TelBuddy is a flat software fee and does not mark up minutes. Chat itself does not use carrier minutes or texts. Live chat and the contact form work on every plan; AI answers need the optional AI add-on.
Chat, Call Us, Text Us, or the texting inbox?
| What | What it is | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Chat with us | A chat on your page: a teammate, the AI, or the contact form | You want a conversation on the page, without making the visitor call or text |
| Call Us / Text Us | One tap opens the visitor's phone or texting app to your number | Someone would rather phone or text you directly |
| Shared texting inbox | Your team's inbox for texts to your numbers | Someone already texted your number |
Chat, Call Us and Text Us live in the same widget and the same install code. You can show all three as a menu, or make the bubble open straight into the chat.
Quick start
- Connect Twilio or Telnyx and sync a number (Twilio, Telnyx). The widget's Call and Text buttons need one.
- Open System Manager, then Widgets, and switch Chat with visitors on.
- Choose who answers, the look, and what the contact form asks for.
- Copy the install code and paste it just before
</body>on your site. - Open Preview on a test page and send yourself a chat.
If you plan to let the AI answer, train the knowledge base first.
What Website Chat does not do
- No PDF or file uploads from visitors. Photos only, up to 8 MB.
- No video or co-browsing.
- No Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp messages in the inbox.
- No softphone. Chat is chat; calls stay in Voice Settings.
