Best Shared SMS Inbox for Twilio in 2026: 7 Tools Compared

Best Shared SMS Inbox for Twilio in 2026: 7 Tools Compared

Twilio gives you a phone number and an API. It does not give you an inbox. The console shows a message log, one row per message, no threads, no "who is handling this," no reply box worth using. So the first thing every team does after buying a Twilio number is go looking for a shared inbox to put on top of it.

There are more of these than you would think, and they are not interchangeable. Some are texting tools with a Twilio connector. Some are help desks that happen to accept SMS as one channel. One is a phone app. One is a full front desk for the number, calls included. This is a straight comparison of the seven that come up most, with the prices and limits as published on their own sites on 21 September 2026. TelBuddy is one of the seven and we have tried to be fair to the other six.

The short version

Two things jump out of that table. First, four of the seven price per seat with a minimum, so the "starting price" a small team actually pays is two to six times the headline number. Second, only two of the seven do anything with the voice side of the same number. If people also call your Twilio number, that column decides the choice before anything else does.

MessageDesk: the texting specialist

MessageDesk is built for teams that text a lot and want to text more: one-on-one conversations, contact lists, scheduled messages, and on the Pro tier, 100-person broadcasts and automations. It connects to the Twilio account you already have, and its pricing page makes a point of "carrier registration included," which means they file your A2P 10DLC brand and campaign for you rather than pointing you at the Trust Hub. For a team whose whole job is outbound texting, that is a real convenience.

The price shape is the thing to know before you sign up. Team is $39 per user per month with a three-user minimum, so the entry cost is $117 a month, or $87 on an annual contract. Pro is $99 per user. There is no voice: MessageDesk is SMS and MMS, and if your number also rings, the calls go wherever Twilio was sending them before. If that is a phone on someone's desk, fine. If it is nothing, that is a gap you will fill with a second product.

Choose it if: texting is the job, you want broadcasts, and you would rather pay per seat than manage carrier registration yourself. We wrote a longer MessageDesk alternative piece for teams that need calls as well.

Sociocs: the multi-carrier inbox

Sociocs is the closest thing on this list to a pure "inbox on your carrier account." It connects to Twilio, Telnyx or SignalHouse, whichever you control, and its pitch is direct carrier pricing with no per-message markup. The free tier is genuinely usable for one person; Standard is $24 a month for two users; Premium is $149 a month for ten. That is the cheapest way on this list to get two people into one Twilio inbox.

It stays on the messaging side. Voicemails can land in the inbox with a transcript as a paid add-on, but there is no calling, no phone menu and no call routing. If you need those, Sociocs is half the answer.

Choose it if: you want a lean SMS inbox on Twilio or Telnyx, one or two seats, and voice is handled somewhere else.

Helpwise: the shared-inbox help desk

Helpwise is a shared inbox in the help desk sense: email, WhatsApp, live chat and SMS in one place, with assignment, notes and collision detection. SMS through Twilio is on the Premium tier ($29 per user, two-user minimum) and Advanced ($49 per user, three-user minimum). Calling exists as a cloud phone add-on at $5 per active user per month.

This is the right shape for a support team that already lives in a ticket queue and wants texts to arrive as tickets. It is the wrong shape for a two-person shop that just wants to see and answer the texts to the business number; the help desk furniture is in the way, and $58 a month is a lot for that.

Choose it if: SMS is one of five channels you support and you want them all in one queue.

Front: the team email product

Front is a serious team inbox for email first. SMS via Twilio is available on Professional ($65 per seat) and Enterprise, not on Starter. If your company already runs on Front, adding your Twilio number as a channel is the obvious move and there is nothing wrong with it. Nobody should buy Front to get a Twilio SMS inbox; the price and the product are both aimed somewhere else.

Choose it if: you are already a Front customer on Professional.

tawk.to: free chat with texts attached

tawk.to is free live chat for websites, funded by paid add-ons: $29 a month to remove the branding, an AI assistant from $29, and hired human agents by the hour. It documents connecting Twilio SMS into the same inbox, so texts to your number can sit beside website chats. For a solo operator with a website chat widget and a Twilio number, that costs nothing.

The trade is that it is a chat product with SMS bolted on. There is no voice, and the inbox is designed around website visitors rather than phone numbers and contacts.

Choose it if: free matters more than anything and website chat is your main channel.

TwineDeck: the phone app

TwineDeck is a different animal: a phone app that turns the Twilio numbers you own into lines you can call and text from, with a shared team inbox on its Business tier. It is priced per year rather than per month ($34.99 for Pro, $69.99 for Business, after a discounted first year) and its site says to keep your existing IVR or AI answering flow in Twilio and let the app ring first. So it is a phone, not a phone system.

Choose it if: you want a native app that behaves like a second phone line on your Twilio number, and you already have your call flow built. Our TwineDeck alternative post goes into where the two products part ways.

TelBuddy: the front desk, calls included

TelBuddy is the dashboard on top of the Twilio or Telnyx account you already own, and the inbox is one part of it. Every text to every synced number lands in one place the whole team can read, reply to, search and hand off, with contacts, templates, MMS, and the ability to pin the numbers you are watching. The same dashboard handles the calls to those numbers: a no-code phone menu, call forwarding, business hours, voicemail with transcripts, call queues with hold music, a click-to-call dialer, and an optional AI receptionist that answers on your number.

Pricing is flat rather than per seat. Starter is $19 a month for 2 numbers and 2 seats; Growth is $39 for 5 and 5; Commercial is $79 for 10 numbers and 15 seats; Enterprise is $149 for 50 and 50. Every tier has the same features; only the counts change. Monthly plans start with seven days free. You get two bills: TelBuddy's software fee, and Twilio or Telnyx usage at the rates you already have.

On A2P 10DLC, we are the opposite of MessageDesk: we do not file it for you. TelBuddy gives you the guidance and the tools to keep every number in step, and the registration stays in your own carrier account, which is where it belongs if you ever leave.

Choose it if: people text and call the same number and you want one place for both, on a flat fee, without moving off Twilio or Telnyx.

If your numbers are on Telnyx

Most of this category is Twilio-only. Of the seven, only Sociocs and TelBuddy connect a Telnyx account, and only TelBuddy does anything with the calls to a Telnyx number. If you chose Telnyx for its rates and want a shared inbox, that is a two-tool shortlist, and it comes down to whether you need voice. Our Telnyx support page covers what syncs and how.

How to decide in five minutes

  1. Does your number get calls? If yes, cross off everything without a voice column. That leaves TwineDeck (a phone) and TelBuddy (a phone system).
  2. How many people? One person on a tight budget: Sociocs free or tawk.to. Two: Sociocs at $24 or TelBuddy at $19, depending on the answer to question 1. Three or more: the per-seat products start at $58 to $117 before you have sent a text.
  3. Is texting the whole job? Broadcasts, lists, drip sequences: MessageDesk, and pay for the seats. Conversations with customers who also call: TelBuddy.
  4. Twilio or Telnyx? Telnyx narrows it to Sociocs or TelBuddy.

Whichever you choose, the setup is the same three steps: connect the account, point the number's messaging webhook at the tool, and invite the team. The step-by-step guide to a shared inbox on your own Twilio number walks through all three, for any tool on this list.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best shared SMS inbox for Twilio?

It depends on whether your number also gets calls. For texting only, MessageDesk (per seat, broadcasts, carrier registration filed for you) and Sociocs (cheapest two-seat inbox, also works with Telnyx) are the strongest. If people call the same number, TelBuddy adds the phone menu, forwarding, voicemail, queues and an optional AI receptionist on a flat $19 a month, so one tool covers both.

Can I keep my own Twilio account with these tools?

Yes. All seven tools in this comparison connect to a Twilio account you own. You keep your numbers, your carrier rates and your A2P 10DLC registration; the tool sets the webhook on each number so texts arrive in its inbox.

Which shared SMS inboxes work with Telnyx?

Of the seven compared, only Sociocs and TelBuddy connect a Telnyx account. TelBuddy also handles the calls to a Telnyx number; Sociocs is messaging only.

How much does a shared Twilio inbox cost for a team of three?

As published on 21 September 2026: MessageDesk $117 a month (three users at $39), Helpwise $87 (three at $29 on Premium), Front $195 (three seats at $65), Sociocs $149 (Premium, up to ten users), TelBuddy $39 (Growth, up to 5 numbers and 5 seats, flat). Carrier usage is extra in every case.

Do I still need A2P 10DLC registration with a shared inbox?

Yes. Texting US customers from a local 10-digit number requires a registered brand and campaign in your carrier account regardless of which inbox you use. MessageDesk files it for you as part of its plans; TelBuddy guides you through it and keeps the registration in your own account.

Skip the Twilio Console entirely

TelBuddy turns everything in this guide into point-and-click settings: IVR menus, forwarding, voicemail, webhooks, and A2P sync, on top of your own Twilio account.
