Telnyx SMS Inbox: Shared Team Texting on Numbers You Own
A Telnyx SMS inbox is a shared team workspace for two-way SMS and MMS on phone numbers that live in your own Telnyx account. Everyone logs in separately. Threads stay with the business. Telnyx bills segments at Telnyx rates. If you want that dashboard layer without moving numbers, start from how to connect Telnyx.
Checked 9 September 2026. Telnyx message rates are Telnyx's. Software prices below are TelBuddy's.
Why Telnyx users look for an inbox
Telnyx Mission Control is a carrier console. It is excellent at numbers, profiles, and APIs. It is not a front desk. The moment two people need to answer the same customer text, you want:
- One thread everyone can see
- Separate logins (not a shared password)
- Templates, media, and a clear owner on each reply
- The same number still able to ring for voice
That is the inbox job.
What you get on a Telnyx number
On the software layer:
- Two-way SMS and MMS in a shared team inbox
- Message templates with optional media
- AI-drafted replies (review-and-send or auto-reply; drafts editable)
- Opt-out handling on top of carrier STOP, plus a clear “opted out” state
- Voice on the same numbers: forwarding, voicemail, hours, menus, queues
- Optional AI voice receptionist as a separate add-on (not in the free trial)
Day-to-day collaboration patterns match the broader shared team inbox feature page. This post stays on the Telnyx angle.
No reseller markup on SMS
You paste your own Telnyx API key. Usage (SMS, MMS, voice minutes, number rent) stays on your Telnyx invoice. The software subscription is flat and separate. Cancelling the dashboard does not take the numbers with it.
You can also run Twilio numbers and Telnyx numbers in the same account, side by side, if you are mid-migration or comparing carrier costs. Provider is chosen per number.
Pricing (software only)
Core plans (all non-AI features; tiers by lines and seats): Starter $19.00/mo, Growth $39.00/mo, Commercial $79.00/mo, Enterprise $149.00/mo. Annual = 10 for 12. Monthly plans: 7-day free trial (AI excluded).
AI receptionist add-on starts at AI Starter $19.99/mo (100 AI voice min / 500 AI messages). See pricing for full cards.
A2P still applies
US A2P 10DLC registration is still done with the carrier, against your business identity. The dashboard does not register A2P on your behalf. What it can do is help point notification settings on numbers already in the account. Budget time for registration the same way you would in Mission Control alone.
When a Telnyx SMS inbox is the wrong tool
If you need landline texting outside Telnyx/Twilio, or the deepest mass-text marketing suite, a texting-first product may fit better. If you have no carrier account and want one bill, an all-in-one SMS reseller is simpler.
If you already live in Telnyx and the pain is “the console is not a team inbox,” this is the lane.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Telnyx SMS inbox?
A shared team inbox for SMS/MMS on numbers you own in Telnyx, with separate logins, templates, and optional AI drafts, while Telnyx continues to bill usage.
Does the inbox mark up Telnyx message rates?
No. Telnyx bills you directly. Software is a flat subscription.
Can we mix Twilio and Telnyx?
Yes. Carrier is per number. Both can share one team inbox.
Is AI texting the same as the AI voice receptionist?
No. AI-drafted SMS replies are part of the core texting toolkit. The AI voice receptionist is a separate optional add-on with its own allowances, and it is not in the free trial.
Do we still need A2P 10DLC?
Yes, for US application-to-person traffic. Registration stays with the carrier and your legal entity.
Skip the Twilio Console entirely
TelBuddy turns everything in this guide into point-and-click settings: IVR menus, forwarding, voicemail, webhooks, and A2P sync, on top of your own Twilio account.
